What is the British Tamils Forum?
British Tamils Forum (“BTF”) is an umbrella organisation by bringing together individuals, and Tamil community organisations to highlight the humanitarian crises and human rights violations perpetrated by the Government of Sri Lanka (GOSL), and to advance the Tamil national cause through democratic means.
BTF’s Mission Statement
To harness the skills and the knowledge of the members of the forum, well-wishers and significant others including the mainstream decision makers in the UK to alleviate the sufferings of the Tamils in the Island of Sri Lanka and to further their right to self determination within the democratic frame work under pinned by the international law, covenants and conventions.
What are the objectives of BTF?
- Raise awareness amongst British public, the decision makers and agencies working in the humanitarian and human rights fields of the on-going suffering of the Tamils in island of Sri Lanka .
- Provide information to the British public and the decision makers about the political and economic oppression experienced by the Tamil community in Sri Lanka since independence from Britain and to help them understand the in-justices and the discrimination against Tamils.
- Work with all major British political parties, and the British government, to ensure that they recognize the legitimate socio-political aspirations of Tamils in the island of Sri Lankaand to help them find peace with justice and dignity.
- Enable British Tamils to advance their social and cultural well being.
